The Regulatory Frame

This sector is regulated, and the specifics depend on what you distribute.

Medical devices in Canada are regulated under the Food and Drugs Act and the Medical Devices Regulations, administered by Health Canada. Distributors and importers of medical devices generally require a Medical Device Establishment Licence, with obligations around distribution records, complaint handling, recall procedures, and mandatory problem reporting. Records must be retrievable and retained for prescribed periods.

Drugs and pharmaceuticals carry separate and generally stricter requirements, including Good Manufacturing Practices obligations that extend to distributors, and licensing under the Food and Drug Regulations.
